work related illness

Mar 8, 2018

As a Counsellor/Psychotherapist I am troubled both by the statistics but also by the words ‘work-related’. This points to inconsiderate uncompassionate employers and as the stats show, unhappy employees.

– The impact to your employees

But how will these practices will impact and affect individuals will differ. These individuals will have been pre-disposed to a disproportionate affect well before being employed.

– Mental-wellbeing management policy

As a therapist I would recommend a sophisticated Mental-Wellbeing management policy to:

  • support the individual that is less resilient;
  • develop employee understanding of the dynamics of relationships and how they affect the workplace and client relationships;
  • look at working practices and provide psychological support;

%

work-related ill-health cases with 24 lost working days on average

%

of lost working days are stress/depression related

%

of a workforce will suffer from work-related stress over the next year

%

of the CEO’s of the worlds top 500 companies will have a break down

Work-related illness - Flourish in work

– The impact to your company

Otherwise what is the alternative? Managing out those employees prone to stress would involve legal fees, redundancy and a potentially unfair dismissal case. This would be costly to the company and potentially unsettle the rest of the workforce.

Alternatively investing in those individuals and helping them with therapy to work through things would be more like £80 – £120 pef hour for a minimum of 6 months.
